An enticement even, to lure you in.

I am about to embark on a new project. It’s exciting. It’s a little scary. It’s funded by Arts Council England – yay, and I will be writing more about this soon. However, before I start the new project there are ideas for a work that have been rattling around my thoughts for some time. The ideas won’t go away and the urge to make has been getting stronger. I have to exorcise this work from my thoughts before embarking on anything new. The origins of the word ‘lace’ have been

    She never mentions tea again

This week I have been concentrating on making work for the Art Language Location Festival, taking place in Cambridge in October. My work, entitled ‘Embroider the Truth’ will be located at the Museum of Cambridge, in their tea room and will be composed of a series of lace doilies designed out of words from Clarice’s diary that reference tea. The first design is completed and the paper doilies made. I have almost finished the embroidered version too but this process takes a lon

This may seem a strange request, but I am an artist and…..

Over the years I have come to realise that a common thread that runs through my work is contrast, contradiction and perhaps the more obvious one of conflict. Sometimes this might be just relevant to the initial catalyst that sparks a new work; words, a contrasting thought or opinion and sometimes it becomes a part of the work itself, in the thought processes and development, the materials used or the final outcome. Time for a change

Two years ago I began developing Resting Place and this blog recorded much of the research and development. Resting Place has now become a stand alone collaborative project and this blog has become more of an outlet for my entire practice. With that in mind I have taken the decision to change the name and from today this site will be called Embroider the Truth. When I set it up I used this as the domain name because I was undecided as to the title of the project and wanted to

An archive of moments in time

Now that Resting Place has received funding from Arts Council England for the first 3 live events  the work to develop the touring project has now begun in  earnest. The website is being built and will be launched very soon, along with a new blog to include the thoughts of all the collaborators. In the meantime the work on the pillowcases begins again. Following the very sad closure of London Printworks Trust at the end of January, I have been spending time adapting my own st

    Opening the show

Another very exciting development that evening was the offer, by archivist Graham Ward, to collaborate with me to catalogue Clarice’s archive and all the work made from it, including this current project. Graham Ward is a fascinating man, painter, illustrator, past Dreamland archivist, Librarian and bookseller, Graham now runs the wonderful Oscar’s Festival Cafe in Broadstairs. It will be a great experience to work with him. In the meantime i have started to photograph my gro
